I’m so glad you’re here! Reaching out for support is not always easy, especially when you’ve been holding so much on your own. You may be feeling anxious, down, overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to begin. Maybe you’re coping with stress, trauma, ADHD, relationship challenges, family expectations, or a major life change. In our work together, I hope to offer a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and supported. I believe you are the expert of your own life, and we’ll move at your pace toward healing and growth that feels meaningful to you. I help clients work through anxiety, depression, relationship stress, and major life changes. My style is warm, collaborative, culturally sensitive, and LGBTQ+ affirming. I hope therapy can be a place where you feel understood, supported, and less alone. I also offer therapy in Mandarin. Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and you don’t need to have the right words or everything figured out before reaching out. Whether you’re hoping to feel less overwhelmed, understand yourself better, or find a way forward, I’d be glad to connect and take the next step with you.
Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply ready for something to change, know that showing up is already a meaningful first step. I work with adolescents, adults, and couples navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, autism, and life transitions. My approach is collaborative and centered on getting to know you, walking alongside you as you build practical tools, gain insight, and create meaningful, lasting change. My approach is grounded in what actually works for you. I draw from CBT, ACT, DBT, trauma-informed care, and person-centered therapy, adjusting the focus each session, whether that's building coping skills or simply having space to talk things through. I want you to leave our work together with real clarity and tools that stick. Reaching out and starting therapy takes real courage, and I'd love the chance to walk alongside you. I want our work together to feel supportive and comfortable from the very first conversation. My hope is that you feel safe, supported, and genuinely welcomed with me, with room to grow at your own pace.
I am a clinical social worker with over 15 years experience working with a range of clients from children to adults. I have worked with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, behavioral challenges, and life transitions. I have provided therapy in hospitals, schools, and clinics. I acknowledge the courage it requires to embark on a therapeutic journey. When you take that step, my aim is to provide you with a secure and empowering environment where we can collaborate.
My focus is supporting individuals navigating substance use challenges, young adults working through the ups and downs of early adulthood, and those facing life changes or transitions. My style is compassionate, non-judgmental, and trauma-informed. I draw from CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and EMDR to help clients build resilience, heal from past struggles, and create lasting change. Therapy with me is a safe space to share your story, gain new skills, and move toward a life that feels more balanced, hopeful, and authentic. Taking the first step toward therapy is a meaningful decision. I would be honored to work with you as you navigate this next chapter.
I look forward to working with people who are ready to make changes in their lives and engage in the therapeutic process. Much of my sessions include discussing goal setting and thinking of various tools and techniques to achieve those goals. I utilize CBT methods, person-centered, and strengths-based approaches to help all clients realize their ability for change and understand they can achieve happiness and alleviate things like anxiety and depression.
I specialize in working with the LGBTQ+ population, addressing men's health issues, and supporting people struggling with addiction and substance use. I am experienced in working with people facing anxiety, stress, depression, and interpersonal conflict. I use a variety of techniques to help my clients, based on what we agree might be best for them - the most important part of therapy with me is you being an active participant in your own goals, progress, and life.

As individuals or in the context of a relationship, we are always trying to make meaning of our lives, decide what is essential to us, and think about the path we are on. Of course, in life there are transitions and challenges along the way which interfere. One can become affected emotionally and can get lost for a time, or feel disillusioned, upset or stuck. In our relationships, we experience conflict and communication struggles, and sometimes get locked into repeated and unwanted patterns. One might ask: "Am I living the life I want; is there something more for me? How do I change? Therapy can be a way to understand the emotions we have, the life transitions we experience and the thoughts we linger on as our lives and relationships evolve and develop. Beyond understanding, therapy’s intent is to support and prompt change and to help you sort through these challenges in your own unique way. Collaboration will guide our work together. I am an interactive, direct and reflective therapist who brings curiosity, humor and respect for the complexity of the issues individuals face. Change is difficult to achieve; my job is to help you utilize and build your resources to accomplish the goals you seek. Having over 30 years of clinical experience offers strategies and tools to share.

Aria Psychiatric is currently providing in person and telepsychiatry visits for clients in Massachusetts. Clients are seen first for a diagnostic assessment and can expect warmth, empathy, and expertise as they work to better understand their mental health concerns. Together with their provider, they will work to determine an appropriate treatment plan. Psychiatric treatment requires a unique collaboration between provider and client in order to be most effective. While medication management and supportive therapy are provided by our practice, clients are also encouraged to be actively engaged in treatment with a therapist.
I offer a collaborative space to address a range of issues, with a particular interest in working with life's big transitions. For example, professionals launching their careers and students formulating their vocational goals; or people in family changes: entering long-term commitments, early parenthood, divorce, or grief. Therapy can provide a non-judgmental space that is both warmly supportive and challenging. Our work will typically balance a combination of self-reflection and change. We start this process together by looking at how your presenting concerns fit into the complex story of your life. Throughout this process, I aim to enhance my clients' agency, satisfaction, and creativity within their lives. About me: Please visit my website at www.miriamwaldheterphd.com . I earned my doctorate at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. I then completed a pre-doctoral internship at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School, and postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. In addition to private practice, I also work part-time at the Danielsen Institute at Boston University.
