Therapists for college students near Portland, OR
Good day and hello! I generally work with people who have experienced childhood, intergenerational, and historical trauma, neurodivergent folks, LGBTQIA2S+, people experiencing grief or big life changes, and might experience really big feelings. I strive to be a provider rooted in anti-oppression ways of being and openly discuss the therapeutic power dynamic. I offer therapy rooted in humanness, joy, and authenticity.
Constant low-spoon days, chronic fatigue, a sense of impending doom, or questions around identity may be what brought you here today. You’ve been doing the best you can, but something isn’t working anymore. You don’t have to keep carrying it alone. I’m Kailey, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Certified Art therapist. I specialize in working with chronic illness, LGBTQIA+ clients, and trauma. I help people using a blend of art therapy and DBT-informed skills. Through guided creative work, we slow things down, make emotions and patterns easier to work with, and build tools for regulation, without relying on the “right” words. The process is intentional, supportive, and paced with care. You don’t need to be artistic or know exactly what to say to start. Therapy with me is collaborative and paced with care, focused on creating a space that feels contained and supportive rather than overwhelming. If you’re looking for a creative, structured approach to therapy that meets you where you are, I invite you to reach out.
My name is Kaci Schmitt (she/her). I am happy and honored to be able to offer counseling and therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults in Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, as well as throughout the states of Oregon and Washington for teletherapy. I truly enjoy working with clients who are looking to process various experiences, transitions, and challenges in their lives, as well as gain knowledge, trust, and compassion for themselves and deepen their capacity for mental and emotional wellness. There are times in life where we can use an empathic, nonjudgmental therapist who can be present with us as we explore our challenges and develop insight. In addition to deeply listening to you, I will hold space for your stories, history, and cultural experiences, as well as encourage you to hold compassion and curiosity for your unique challenges. I specialize in working with teens and adults with anxiety, trauma, and grief and loss. Many of the clients I work with are highly sensitive persons (HSPs) and looking for ways to cultivate wellness in their lives. I also frequently work with people in the helping fields who are experiencing burnout and exhaustion, who are ready to explore ways to process vicarious and secondary trauma and prioritize true self-care. I truly love the work I do. I began my practice because I believe that we all have the capacity to grow, heal, and transform, and that we all have insight that we can develop and learn to trust. I also believe that working through our challenges with self-compassion and understanding can help us move from pain and frustration to peace and autonomy. We are all capable of creating meaningful lives of peace. I deeply believe that we all have an innate capacity to heal and that each person is their own best resource and source of wisdom, and that we often need a little help allowing ourselves to access and trust our intuition. We all have many possible selves, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, who others are, and how life works can help or hurt our chances at being the self we want to be. I also believe that there must be space in therapy to process the things about life that are hard, painful, exhausting, and often heartbreaking, all while cultivating a gentler, more compassionate, resilient way of being in this world. Therapy allows us the opportunity to develop self-awareness and explore action steps that we can take to improve our wellbeing. I respect the process it takes to discover new things about ourselves and integrate what we have learned into our lives, and I encourage my clients to do so with great care for themselves. I consider it a privilege to be a collaborative partner in the healing and transformation process.

My expertise lies in working with young adults, ranging in age from late teens to 20’s and 30’s. Through years of experience working in counseling centers at colleges and universities and with clients in this age range, I understand the unique challenges life can pose for young adults and will help you strive towards greater satisfaction with yourself, in your life and in your relationships. I view the relationship between therapist and client as a partnership. We will work together to get you where you want to be. I work with a variety of presenting concerns including depression, anxiety, relationships, trauma, sexual orientation and identity, self-esteem, substance abuse and life transitions. I am currently offering teletherapy sessions and I am accepting new clients. I practice Gestalt therapy in a warm and supportive environment, where I will help you gain insight into past patterns of behavior that are no longer useful, help you uncover barriers that are holding you back, develop new ways of coping, and build on existing strengths. You are probably here today because no matter how hard you try, you don't feel good enough. Maybe mentally you are aware of your success in school, work &/or at home but you don't feel it. Something brought back the painful, unwanted memories you tried so hard to forget & patterns that hold you back on the inside. You wake up in the morning & the first thing you notice is how sad, overwhelmed, tired and anxious you feel. Imagine yourself one day waking up without nightmares, enjoying life, feeling more fully present every moment, safe enough to explore friendships, romantic relationships, and to say “no.” I know that you have the potential to heal & build a better life for yourself because other survivors of trauma I have worked with & met have done so. I invite you to call me for a free 15 min. consultation.
We move through our days like houses filled with locked rooms, some we have never entered, some we have sealed off ourselves. We tell ourselves stories about why we cannot move forward, about the things that press against us—unseen but insistent. And yet, no one is truly alone. We are shaped by the hands and voices of others, by the echoes of what was said and unsaid. Change, is not a solitary act. My work is to sit with you in the quiet, to help you unlatch the doors, to sweep away the dust and debris of what holds you back. You do not need to become someone else—only to step fully into yourself. I also specialize in guiding those with ADHD through the labyrinth of daily life and helping people find clarity in their careers.

Developmental trauma (experiences as we grow, including our family of origin) shapes how we see the world, sometimes unsafe and challenging to navigate. Our attachments are the foundations in which we trust or find conflict. Developmental trauma may manifest in the body as anxiety, stress, distress, relationship difficulties, depression and more. There is healing to be found here, to be understood and nourished. Well done on the first step in a journey toward wellness. The most important aspect of therapy is finding a person who makes you feel safe and heard. I look forward to collaborating. I have training and experience in working with trauma, family of origin/generational cycles, attachment disruptions, complicated grief and loss, sexuality, sex work and with LGBTQAI+ persons. I love working through emotions, trauma and somatic experiencing. I am Level I Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy trained. I enjoy working with and understanding folx from their perspective; I work with singles, couples, non-monogamous consensual relationships and families. I provide a safe, unassuming space in which you can find felt safety. I appreciate the eclectic person you are and would like to help you identify your own cracks, so that you can let your own light in.
