Therapists for college students near Philadelphia, PA
Immediate availability! I am a licensed psychologist who works with adults 18+ and couples, particularly around navigating stress and anxiety, building self-confidence, navigating life transitions, and relationships. My goal is to create a space where you can feel comfortable discussing challenging experiences and relationships, build resilience and coping skills, and develop your own individual identity. I hope to make this a collaborative experience in which we can engage in problem solving and exploration around all aspects of personal and professional development, while also sharing in some laughter. My approach is warm and conversational, yet direct. I use a combination of skills-based interventions with more traditional “talk” therapy as I believe therapy should be flexible and tailored to each individual. My goal is to support while also challenge you, all while using humor and your strengths to help you flourish!
I am a Clinical Social Worker licensed in New York and Pennsylvania. I have a dual degree in Social Work and Music and use my knowledge of art and human behavior to shape my practice. I have a holistic, laid-back, and compassionate approach to building relationships. I use talk therapy in combination with mindfulness, body awareness, and creative expression to understand where you are coming from. I hope to foster a non-judgmental space for you to process and understand your inner thoughts and feelings. I believe in collaborative, client-centered, and strengths-based approaches to understanding the needs of each individual. I work primarily with adolescents and young adults who are interested in growing their own knowledge and tools to balance life’s stressors. I work best with individuals who are willing to employ insight to enhance their daily lives and achieve their goals. It’s never too late.

We treat anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and ADHD. We additionally provide neuropsychological assessments for accommodations. Services include Psychiatric Evaluations, Medication Management and Psychotherapy. Patients can generally be seen within 2-3 weeks. In-office visits available in Philadelphia and Paoli, PA and virtual visits available to patients in PA, NJ, NY, MA and FL (depending on provider licensing). I created this practice, mktherapy, in order to provide a space that believes in affirming and celebrating queer and trans identities. I specialize in working with fat identified folks who are in recovery and healing from fatphobic familial and cultural structures. I have additional interests in working with people coming into queer and trans identities later in life, intergenerational and ancestral trauma, as well as religious and spiritual trauma.
WARNING: HIGHLY INTERACTIVE THERAPIST! I work with clients 13+ from a wide range of genders and backgrounds. Most of my clients are dealing with some combination of anxiety, depression, relationship stress, or questions about sexuality and gender. Many are coming out of their first big break up or first major loss. I have a particular focus in “men’s” issues, relationships and couples work, and on addressing topics we were never taught to explore — namely sexuality and grief. Some of my clients are deeply religious others are atheists. Some have never dated others are active BDSMers. My style is highly interactive. We’ll work to address faulty beliefs and longstanding BS. Together, we can talk about anything from anxiety to compulsive porn use, from kink to grief. I have a particular focus in “men’s” issues, couples counseling, and grief. I won’t promise you’ll “find happiness.” That would be like trying to sell you keys to your own car. All I promise is to be your teammate. If what you seek is a combination of empathy and strength, a nonjudgmental space, an emphasis on connection over analysis, and a confidant who will not waver then I invite you to book a consultation below.

I work best with students who feel a lot—sometimes all at once—and aren’t sure where to put it. You might be dealing with anxiety, identity questions, relationship stress, or the pressure to keep everything together while quietly struggling inside. If you’re queer or exploring your identity, you’ll find a space here where you don’t have to explain or defend who you are. And if you’re looking for a therapist who is warm, collaborative, and open-minded, this might be a good fit. Please reach out!
My style of therapy is very laid back, as I believe comfort is the most important part of the therapy process. In order to discuss difficult topics or begin to work towards goals, there has to be a strong therapeutic relationship. I begin to build this relationship by getting to know my client's personalities, family structure, work life, friendships, etc. Once I get to know you, I can better understand patterns, coping skills, and/or emotions that may be occurring in response to stressors. I also am very client-centered and will tailor the therapy process around what is best for each client. Everyone is different and that means that therapy will look different for each person.
Hi, I’m Djola McGowan, but most people lovingly call me DJ. I’m a neurodivergent Licensed Professional Counselor based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I identify as a woman and use she/her pronouns. As a first-generation American with roots in Jamaica—the land of wood and water—I bring a rich, culturally informed perspective to my work. I believe therapy is a revolutionary act of self-care and a collaborative journey. My approach to therapy is grounded in collaboration, curiosity, and cultural awareness. I truly believe that healing doesn’t happen in isolation — it happens within us, but also in our relationships, families, and the systems we move through every day. As someone who values both personal insight and practical tools, I draw from Structural Family Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help my clients make sense of how their emotions, thoughts, and family dynamics all intertwine. Together, we untangle the patterns that are keeping you stuck and work toward building new, healthier ways of being — both within yourself and in your relationships.

My passion for this work stems from my own struggles with mental health throughout my life. I know firsthand how important it is to have the proper support. I identify with the LGBTQIA+, kink/BDSM, and poly/ENM communities, so I am familiar with the unique issues facing these marginalized communities, and also the struggle to find a safe space to express your unique self when seeking help. Whether the issues you are seeking therapy for are directly related to your identity or not, you can freely be yourself in our sessions and let your guard down. You will not have to expend the emotional labor to educate me about your identity(ies). I provide a safe space, while clarifying your goals and desired outcome for therapy. I tailor my approach to your unique needs. However you identify, I will meet you where you are at on your personal journey, and together we can work to figure out how you can live your most authentic life. Change does not happen overnight. It requires time, patience, and a willingness to be vulnerable. If you are ready to take the first step today, I would love to hear from you so we can get started!
