Therapists for college students near Philadelphia, PA
Maybe chronic stress, anxiety, or trauma has your nervous system stuck on high alert, so that even when life is relatively stable, you don't actually feel that way. Maybe your past experiences show up now as hypervigilance, tension, irritability, insomnia, or shutting down. Maybe you're managing burnout, depression, relationship struggles, or patterns you just can't seem to shake. Maybe you're tired of merely surviving and ready to actually feel different. With a background in social justice, many of my clients are queer, activists, neurodivergent, and others for whom identity/politics/systemic context are part of their story. We start by helping your body feel safer through various approaches such as biofeedback, breathwork/meditation, or the Safe and Sound Protocol so your nervous system doesn’t have to work so hard. From there, we look deeper at the patterns, relationships, and stories that shaped how you move through the world. We explore what matters to you at your own pace. Our work together isn't about fixing what's "wrong" with you. It's about understanding what has happened to you, how you've adapted, and finding out what is possible when we have more awareness and more options. My approach is a deeply relational one. You're the expert on your own life and I'm here to serve as a supporter and collaborator in the process.
My experiences stem from working with children of all ages within a variety of educational and therapeutic settings that ultimately led towards my work with at-risk children as a Family Based Therapist. Working hands on with families in their homes within authentic and relational setting(s) (i.e., home and community) had shaped my learning experiences and identified my growth as a person and a therapist. My work prepared me to differentiate my therapeutic approaches and enable connections that no traditional clinical experience could offer. Fast forward, working as a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have the privilege to work with a variety of populations, with clients ranging from mild to severe mental health conditions. I offer a warm safe setting that enables a professional therapeutic collaboration and growth towards client centered therapeutic goals. I continue to rely upon evidenced based interventions to help guide our therapeutic relationship towards progress or help uncover potential barriers to that may impede your therapeutic progress.
Are you struggling with grief, anxiety, self-worth issues, trauma or everyday personal relationships? A supportive connection and listening ear can make a world of difference. My approach is to create a supportive partnership where we work together solving problems, discovering solutions and experiencing greater peace. My goal is to support you in having a better understanding of your inner world, to gain perspective about who you are in relationships and to increase overall health. Most importantly, I want to know the life you want for yourself and help you reach that vision.
Currently seeing individuals ages 18 +, believe in meeting people where they are at, utilize evidenced based approaches, work collaboratively, and focus on improving overall quality of life
I often work with individuals in recovery, teens, college students, young adults, and more. I work with LGBTQIA+ individuals focusing on self-discovery, empowerment, and identity exploration. I also work with individuals struggling with religious trauma or spiritual concerns.
In working with you, my goal is to help you improve your overall sense of well-being, improve your relationships and address life's challenges with greater self-assurance and ease. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in the present. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will address what may be holding you back from experiencing life with greater joy and ease.
Sometimes we feel like our light has been dimmed by our past experiences and ongoing life stressors. Maybe others have noticed that you have been more irritable, distant, or just “different”. Whether it be anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, or other life circumstances, don’t let that hold you back from building the life you deserve. You’re here because you finally want to take back control of your life and begin to find your true self again. Your struggles do not have to define you and you deserve to be happy. It's time to put yourself first and reach out for help. Let us work together in finding balance through being present, practicing self-care, and positive thinking.
Hello! My name is Cassie, a Licensed Professional Counselor. Therapy can be hard to start for a lot of reasons, but my goal is to help you get started while feeling comfortable. Everyone has things in their lives that they want to change, but change can be hard without the right help. Whether you're looking for skills to help with stress or looking to finally face a trauma that's been haunting you, my goal is to help you change your life for the better, no matter how big or small the problem is. I look forward to working with you!
Many of the clients I see are dealing with some form of anxiety, depression, adjustment-related issue, or life transition. Most often, my clients are young adults who are having problems in interpersonal relationships, such as feeling extremely anxious in social situations, having difficulty finding or maintaining healthy relationships, struggling to communicate effectively with others, or experiencing uncertainty what their wants and needs are in a relationship. I have a great deal of experience working with students. My internship and postdoc were both in a university counseling center, and afterward, I was a psychology professor for a number of years. In these roles, I worked with both undergraduate and graduate students. Therefore, I'm very familiar with the challenges that students can face. Whatever it is that is getting in the way, I can help! I utilize evidence-based approaches and methods that have been proven to work. However, because there is no single approach that works for every person across all situations, I practice in a way that will be responsive to your unique needs. We may work on identifying problematic thoughts, putting new behaviors into action, or learning how to better identify, express, and manage your emotions. If your concern is relationship-related, we will explore your relationship patterns, identify factors that are having a negative impact on your relationships, and help you develop the skills to find and maintain healthy, fulfilling relationships. Regardless of the specifics, I place a prime emphasis on providing a safe, supportive environment that is free from judgment. My style has been described as highly collaborative.
Sometimes life feels big and fast, and really painful. You might be going through a major transition, dealing with a loss, or coping with intense stress. Whatever the cause, you’re left with the sense that things just aren’t right. Overwhelming as things feel, inside of you, there’s also wisdom and a great capacity to understand and heal what hurts, so that you feel more peace internally and experience more enjoyment as you navigate challenges, losses, stress–whatever life puts in your path. Together, our work will be to find and nourish the wisdom and ability that's already within you. I meet you with openness to all the parts of you, whether they’re critical or criticized, anxious or calm, heavy with sadness or energetic and driven. We work to access and open up the gifts these parts hold and to connect with the core you that’s so full of wisdom and vigor. Life slows down. Healing begins. And a brighter, clearer path opens up before you.
Hi! I’m Tori I’ve been working in the mental health field for 10 years, gaining experience in a variety of settings, and I’ve found my passion in helping adolescents, young adults, and adults navigate the ups and downs of life. This time in life is full of growth, change, and self-discovery—exciting, but also intimidating. I love supporting my clients through managing anxiety, depression, stress, and interpersonal challenges, and helping them build the skills to thrive. I take a laid-back approach to therapy, aiming to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and genuinely understood. Humor is a big part of my style—life is tough enough, so I believe therapy should have some light moments. That said, I know when to be serious, and I’ll be right there with you as we work through whatever’s on your mind. I’m here for people from all walks of life, and I’m a strong ally of the LGBTQIA+ community. My approach combines Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you develop practical tools for managing emotions, improving relationships, and making real, lasting changes in your life. In our work together, you’ll gain valuable insight into your thought patterns, learn skills to cope with stress, and build the resilience to live more authentically and mindfully. Outside of therapy, you’ll probably find me spending time with loved ones, catching concerts, watching horror movies, or taking walks. I’d be honored to walk alongside you on your journey to greater well-being. Reach out if you’d like to learn more or get started!

Our practice provides psychoanalytic psychotherapy. A psychoanalytic approach to treatment offers a comprehensive and nuanced framework for addressing trauma, anxiety, depression, identity struggles, self-esteem, and a sense of self. If advisable, we can also provide careful expert medication management that is informed by our therapeutic work together. Our approach facilitates an environment where people are able to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and wishes in a setting that is inherently collaborative, caring, and non-judgemental. A strong therapeutic relationship is the most powerful means of treatment and developing this alliance is an essential priority for me.

I founded my practice to create a space for people to feel heard, seen, and to create positive change in their lives. I want mental health care to feel welcoming, accessible, and like a safe holding space to sort it all out. I truly believe we are all out here doing our best, and that every person deserves an opportunity to heal and grow from adversity. We are all flawed works in progress, and that’s perfectly okay. I have had the opportunity to live this; and know what it’s like to be in the other seat. I’m so grateful for the healers in my life (shout out to Rary and Rena!), and find great purpose and privilege in being able to do that for others. I guide clients by fostering space for exploration and curiosity while also integrating actionable practical tools. I specialize in helping people process their trauma, get relief from anxiety and depression, understand and set boundaries, and improve relationship functioning. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming, strengths-based, and empathic. I am trained in evidenced based interventions that offer highly effective relief. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) offers Trauma/PTSD treatment in 7-12 sessions. The Gottman Method is an extensively researched backed methodology for treating couples. My goal is to deepen the understanding between couples and provide blueprints for success to handle conflicts. Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) is a treatment modality for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Please don't hesitate to reach out for a free 15 minute consultation.
We all want to be happy. We may feel stuck or face challenges. Getting support from someone on the outside, in the counseling or psychology field, can help you gain a new perspective. You can learn to make better choices, feel less anxious and feel more optimistic; find peace in the day-to-day. In my practice, I see adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families, and here’s a little bit about how I work: I work in the here-and-now and have background training in Gestalt theory and utilize a variety of psychotherapy techniques. I take a creative and practical approach to counseling that allows you to understand more quickly what drives you and helps you identify new and better ways of living. Quieting the “noise” that distracts you will help so you can focus your energy on what’s meaningful and fulfilling. I earned my masters in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA in 2007 and went on to complete the necessary 3+ years of post-graduate training to qualify for a psychotherapy license in the state of PA. I am paneled with many of the major commercial insurance plans as well as several employee assistance programs. During my 17 years experience as a counselor and research clinician, I was trained to utilize several semi-structured interviewing tools such as KSADS, SCID, and ISCA-D. I have published social psychology testing materials at the University of Pittsburgh while working on several major nationally-funded depression and anxiety studies under Doctors Birmaher, Axelson, and Kovacs. In 2010, I spent a year as a volunteer with the Good Grief Center of Pittsburgh where I had extensive training in grief counseling. In addition to my clinical skills, I hold a substance abuse education/SAP certification from UPMC. Welcome to the Awareness and Wellness Center (AWC)! My name is Amy Mintgomery and I am a professional counselor in Pennsylvania providing in-person and online counseling. I have been providing therapy services for adults struggling with a range of issues including substance use disorders, problems with self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief/loss, as well as anger/stress management problems and more. I have gained this experience working in a variety of therapeutic settings including long-term residential, inpatient and outpatient agencies. For 18 years I worked in the Student Life division of a local university. I worked primarily with student organizations in organizational development. I helped the young adult population of the university develop self-efficacy and to better manage stress. More recently I worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings for substance use and co-occurring disorders. In therapy, I use a person-centered approached utilizing cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused technique. My approach is to provide a soothing space and offer the environment you need to talk through life’s challenges. “Life on life’s terms” can be complicated and everyone needs a place to process difficulties. My hope is to be part of your “We” so that you have the professional support needed to begin to work through challenges and find solutions to better manage stress and the emotions connected to that stress.
