I take a holistic view of clients, build upon inherent strengths, and create a partnership to guide and facilitate change, making progress toward goals.

I work hard to collaborate with you- I listen to what is going on and has been getting in the way of being the best version of you. Together we will develop treatment goals to help you get back to a great place. I am passionate about working with people who are struggling with identity concerns, anxiety, depression, parenting concerns, interpersonal/relationship concerns, self-esteem, stress management, substance use concerns or trying to recover from a history of trauma. I utilize an integrative approach through a multicultural lens in my work meeting the client where they are at and learning about their goals, strengths and struggles that they want to overcome. I love to use a strength based approach that is client centered and solution focused. I am passionate about integrating physical exercise and skill building into treatment to help with sustainability of progress. Lastly, from my experience, clients who do the best in treatment are ones who do work outside of our appointments to apply and utilize the skills/resources we are discussing.

Opening up is no small thing, but it's also the fundamental thing that gives folks relief. To this end, I try to make therapy a natural process and most of my clients say that I feel like "talking to a real person." I developed my style by working with university students on a number of campuses who taught me to drop the artificial formalities, ask deeper questions, be upfront with my care, and say what I mean. In general, I start from the standpoint that anyone seeking therapy has come by their pain honestly and that much of what folx find distressing in themselves is a reasonable response to what has happened to them. Thus, I am unlikely to give rote advice and more likely to partner with you in unpacking your past, exploring your feelings, reaching creative solutions, and lifting what's blocking you from moving toward your version of the good life. In terms of specialties, I help students work through the kinds of relationship troubles (family, romantic, friendships etc) that leave people feeling lonely, anxious, inadequate, seeking approval, depressed, misunderstood, self-critical, or slow to let others in. Queer folx, Student Veterans, adult children of alcoholics, overachievers, burnt out students, undergrad, law, medical, and grad students, young professionals, and folks in creative fields have found me helpful. Importantly, for therapy to be a liberating space, people need the freedom to talk about how their lives are shaped by their sociocultural identities as well as corresponding experiences of prejudice, marginalization, and erasure. Conversations about politics, class, race, religion, gender, sexuality and all the "isms" are fair game and also integral to figuring out how to live with more ease in these difficult times.
Life burning down around you? Cool, grab a seat. Cry, laugh, drop a few F-bombs. You’re safe here. Welcome to therapy! I’m a therapist, a professor, and a real human who’s lived through real things. I don’t do this work from a distance. I’ve moved through anxiety and depression. I’ve grieved the loss of people I love. I’ve gone through divorce. I’m raising a child with special needs… and all of that shapes how I show up for you. In my therapy space, we slow down. We breathe. We talk honestly. We laugh sometimes. We grieve sometimes. And we make room for the parts of you that you’ve had to hide to survive. Therapy should reflect your inner world and the world you live in, so I bring a progressive, social justice-rooted perspective to my work. I see you as a whole person through a bio-psycho-social-cultural-spiritual lens. I am fat-positive, sex-positive, kink-friendly, and identity-affirming. I am client-centered and strengths-based. Going to therapy can be scary. You’re pouring your life out to someone you don’t know. You’re sharing things you’ve never said out loud. That takes vulnerability. Folks trust me to hold some of the most complicated parts of their lives. It’s an honor, and I want to be a good vessel for that, someone who holds your story with care and compassion, and without judgment. I believe everyone should have access to affordable health and mental health care, so don't let the price deter you. Contact me to discuss our sliding scale. I also offer a no-pressure, first session to make sure it is a good fit!
