Maybe you're starting to recognize the ways fear, self-doubt, or old survival skills are holding you back. Are you eager to experiment with new actions and perspectives? I look forward to helping you discover your strengths and move in the direction of your unique values! Together, we'll target ineffective habits and beliefs to improve your mindset, mood, relationships, or overall health. I draw from an array of evidence-based therapies, with advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor associate and HBCU graduate. My vocational mental health counseling sessions help students answer the question: Now what? This a place to learn new coping skills, grow beyond trauma, adjust to college life, shape identity, and prepare for upcoming challenges. I see students who are managing known conditions as well as students who are needing brief guidance. I understand that the college life post pandemic is very different then what others experienced. I can help you make it, make sense.
I have worked with individuals across all walks of life with various difficulties they are trying to navigate. So many people understand they don't feel like themselves, but cannot work through why. I individualize my treatment to fit clients where they are at with where they want to be in mind. I use a person-centered approach to ensure respect and understanding so we can explore difficulties together.

I have been a practicing licensed clinical social worker for over 30 years in the Triangle area. I currently have space for a few new clients. I have a very open-minded, psychodynamic approach to therapy and definitely don't have a "one size fits all" approach. Every one I see in my practice is treated as a unique individual with their own needs. I do use CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), mindfulness, solution focused brief therapy and a family systems approach as a foundation point, but customize what works best depending on what feels right for you. I have two wonderful furry "co-therapists" who are often available to sit at your feet during sessions if we meet in person. I also offer tele therapy which is confidential, convenient and easier for many students. I have years of experience working with college aged students around adjustment and relationship issues, handling the stress of academics, anxiety, ADHD and life transitions. Although I am licensed to treat children, adolescents and adults I have enjoyed working with college and graduate students more than any other age group. I work 3 days per week and am happy to speak with you for a brief (free) phone consultation to see if my practice is a good fit for you!

One of my passions is assisting students transitioning to college and other life transitions. My work with students with mental health disabilities in high school and helping them move beyond learning emotional regulation, executive functioning and other skills has been very rewarding. Many students deal with anxiety and stress and there is no reason to deal with this on your own.

“One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.” Abraham Maslow Perhaps you're feeling down or anxious - maybe you're unsure about the future of a relationship, aren't satisfied with how you're managing stressors, feeling burned out or depleted, or feel worn out by past experiences and difficult to bear emotions. Whatever your needs may be, I am here to offer support and guidance from a well versed, compassionate and non-judgmental perspective. Therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery. In my sessions I promote improved awareness of the processes that lead to a sense of feeling stuck, skills to meaningfully improve your relationships, and transformation in the way you think and respond to your experiences. You will find a strong focus on restorative techniques used to soothe the nervous system. Teaching the skills necessary to calm our physiological as well as our cognitive responses lead to the most balanced outcomes and meaningful change.
